Highline Community College students Liliya Kruk and Klara Oh – both from Kent – have been named members of the All-Washington Academic Team for their scholastic achievement, community service and involvement on campus.
“We are proud to have Liliya and Klara recognized for their achievement in pursuit of their degrees in the high demand field of nursing,” said Highline President Jack Bermingham. “Their outstanding success both inside and outside the classroom demonstrates the character and leadership that merit national recognition.”
Kruk, Oh and other top scholars from the state’s 34 community and technical colleges were recognized today during the awards ceremony at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia. KeyBank honored each team member with a $250 scholarship.
Kruk, 18, is pursuing her degree in nursing. She holds a 3.91 GPA and is a Vice President’s Honor Roll scholar. Born in the Ukraine, Kruk’s family immigrated to the U.S. in 1999.
Kruk enjoys volunteering and has organized summer programs for youth in her community. She also plays the flute and has shared her talent by providing lessons to young women in her church orchestra.
Oh is a nursing student and member of the Highline Honors Program. She is on the Vice President’s Honor Roll, maintaining a 3.98 GPA, and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She also serves as the teaching assistant and networking leader for the Honors Program.
Oh volunteers in the Medical Oncology unit at Highline Medical Center. She is also a lifeguard and swimming instructor at Marine Hills Swim Club and Mount Rainier High School.
The All-Washington Academic Team program is sponsored by Washington Association of Community and Technical Colleges, Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges, State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, and Phi Theta Kappa.
