The heavy rain that came through Kent Thursday caused more than just traffic backups and high water on the roads when a business’s roof collapsed.
Crate Tech, Inc., in the 8200 block of South 194th Street, had a 40 feet by 40 feet section of roof come down in a warehouse area shortly after 5 p.m., according to a Kent Fire Department media release.
The building is a concrete tilt-up and the collapse happened in a corner of the building where drains were unable to keep up with the sudden accumulation of rain water.
No one was in the area when the roof came down and no one was injured.
A city of Kent building code inspector was requested to determine if the remaining portions of the building were habitable. The official allowed workers to continue operating in the unaffected portions of the building after he inspected the entire building and also checked out the roof.
