Ross Hardy will replace Russ Hanscom on the Kent School Board for the next two years.
Hardy was sworn-in by the board Oct. 25 at the Kent School District Administration Center. Hardy will fill the vacant district one director position until the seat is up for election in 2019. Hanscom, who is running for a Kent City Council seat on the Nov. 7 general election ballot, resigned in the summer.
“I know I can bring the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to meet the current challenges without relenting,” Hardy said in a story posted the district website. “With a student who will be in KSD for the next 15 years, I am deeply invested for the long-haul.”
Hardy plans to focus on inclusive leadership, resources and an improved organizational framework for the district. The board picked Hardy for the seat.
“We had several exceptional candidates which made this a difficult decision but I feel we came to the correct and unanimous decision,” Board President Maya Vengadasalam said. “We have chosen the candidate with the particular skills and experience that best addresses our current challenges and our future opportunities and welcome Ross to the role.”
Hardy holds a master’s degree in business administration and works at Ernst and Young. He has three elementary students in the Kent School District, and has been a foster parent since 2010. He served on the city of Kent Financial Sustainability Task Force, and is involved with Girl Scouts of Western Washington.
“He’s an advocate for those in need in both his personal and professional life, and he will be a wonderful advocate for the Kent community,” Superintendent Calvin J. Watts said.
