After needing three counts and several days to claim victory in 2004, Gov. Christine Gregoire appeared to sail to re-election Tuesday night with the major networks and local affiliates all calling the election in her favor.
In a short press conference at 10:30 a.m. today, Republican candidate Dino Rossi announced he had called the governor to concede and said he had no plans to run for office in the future.
Rossi said while there were still votes to be counted, the remaining votes did not appear to be enough to overcome Gregoire’s lead.
As of Wednesday morning’s count, Gregoire received more than 53 percent of the vote and led Rossi by more than 100,000 votes.
Gregoire claimed victory Tuesday night after all of the major networks called the election in her favor.
