Green River College celebrated its 50th anniversary with a First 50 Gala on April 16 in the Mel Lindbloom Student Union on the college’s main campus in Auburn.
About 160 faculty, staff, alumni and community members attended the black-tie affair, which featured comments from Green River College Foundation Board Chair Jim Rottle, dinner, a Raise Your Paddle auction and performances by music faculty Kelly Eisenhour and the Green River Jazz Voices.
The event raised more than $110,000 for the Green River College Foundation and will provide financial assistance to students, support the Pathways to Completion Program and help build pathways to living-wage careers. A $20,000 donation from Inspirus Credit Union will be benefit the Green River Completion Center.
“The First 50 Gala was a heartwarming event, it was wonderful to see the depth of support for the college,” campaign chair Gail Spurrell said. “With that support, the college is poised to offer continued excellence in education and financial support to those attending during the next 50 years.”
The college’s 50th anniversary celebration concludes with the 50th commencement ceremony on June 10 at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
More than 10,000 students attend the college quarterly, with campuses in Auburn, Kent and Enumclaw.
