Prostitution
Kent Police cited a grandmother and a married man for investigation of prostitution loitering after officers found the two sitting in a car at 2:32 a.m. Sept. 19 in a parking lot in the 25500 block of Pacific Highway South.
The grandmother told officers she walked the streets to work as a prostitute because she needed about $1,000 to pay rent to stay in her apartment, according to the police report. She told officers she had several grandchildren to raise. The report did not list an age for the woman or the man.
The man initially told police he had not done anything wrong. The woman told officers the man approached her in his vehicle and asked her if she was a cop.
Officers then asked the man again why he had stopped the woman and allowed her into his car. The man told police he was looking for a prostitute, but he just wanted to talk to the woman. The man said he was married with young children and didn’t want to ruin that relationship.
The man apologized to the officers and told them they would never see him in the area again. Police cited the man for prostitution loitering and told him he would receive a court date in the mail.
Officers had approached the car after seeing a man in the driver’s seat and a woman in the passenger seat of a vehicle parked in an area known for prostitution activity.
