The Golden State Foods (GSF) Foundation and Quality Custom Distribution – in partnership with United Stationers Charitable Foundation – hosted its Back(pack) to School event on Aug. 29 in Kent. More than 100 backpacks were distributed to deserving first-grade students from George T. Daniel Elementary School.
The program provides first-graders with a backpack filled with essential school supplies, so children in need can start the school year on the right foot and prepared to learn. Each year, administrators and educators select which children are eligible to receive assistance through the program.
“For many children and families, backpacks and school supplies are simply not affordable purchases,” said Chuck Browne, executive director of the GSF Foundation. “The GSF Foundation believes that every child deserves to begin their academic career with the tools necessary to become an engaged and successful student, and we hope to be able to contribute to that effort with our Back(pack) to School events.”
To date, the GSF Foundation has raised more than $25 million for more than 500 children’s charities and elementary schools serving its most challenging neighborhoods. Last year alone, GSF Foundation volunteers donated more than 125,000 service hours to others.
