Friends have started a gofundme.com account for the wife of a 30-year-old Kent man fatally shot during an attempted car prowl at Westfield Southcenter Mall in Tukwila.
Chris and Mary Wesolowicz were returning to their vehicle at about 6:39 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 at a mall parking garage, according to Tukwila Police.
“Based on the initial investigation, it is believed that the couple interrupted a vehicle prowl at which time the suspect opened fire on the victims before fleeing in a vehicle,” according to Tukwila Police.
Chris Wesolowicz died at the scene. Paramedics transported Mary Wesolowicz to a local hospital. She was shot in the hand.

“I am truly grateful and humbled by the amount of support my family and I have received in the aftermath of this tragedy,” Mary Wesolowicz said in a GoFundMe post. “I have been shown how truly blessed I am to have the people in my life that I do. Every word of support, every moment spent holding space for me, and every generous gift I’ve received has raised my spirits in this time and made life just a little bit easier.”
As of Tuesday, Nov. 29, the gofundme account had raised $16,587.
“I appreciate everything and all who have supported me,” Mary Wesolowicz said. “In the coming days, we are still continuing to calculate funeral costs, medical expenses for myself, and pet care. While I am sure there will be more, I know that this head start will put me on solid ground so that I can begin to move forward in the way that Chris would have wanted.”
Chris and Mary Wesolowicz were married Oct. 24, 2014.
“I am currently looking at being out of work on disability for at least 12 weeks before regaining the ability to type,” Mary Wesolowicz said. “While things are still difficult and very up in the air, please know that I am surrounded by love and we will continue to update you all as details settle.”
Christina Hendricks, of Kent, organized the gofundme account.
“Chris was a man of great passion and this showed with every endeavor,” Hendricks said in a GoFundMe post. “When he engaged in any adventure, it was with all of his being. Chris loved the renaissance faire, camping, and being a dog dad. .. He was never one to turn down a wild adventurer. .. a cuddle puddle. Chris was an unabashedly, open-hearted person and loved without limits. He was proudly polyamorous and showed his love freely. He would be happy that his wife, Mary, and his girlfriend, Kali, have each other and their chosen family to hold onto during this challenging time.”
Mary Wesolowicz posted on Facebook about her husband.
“Chris was one of the most selfless people you could have ever met, he was always stepping in to lend a hand and never asking when he himself needed help,” she said. “He was fun-loving and had so many adventures ahead of him.
“I urge you to tell your loved ones that you love them, always let that be the last thing you say to them, because you never know when it will be the last time.”
