One person was seriously hurt early early Saturday morning during a three-alarm apartment fire in the 3200 block of South 192 Street in SeaTac, the Kent Fire Department reported.
The patient – whom firefighters found on the grass below her second-story apartment balcony – was treated and transported to a local hospital by King County Medic One. Her condition is not known.
There were no other reported injuries, Kent Fire officials said.
Fire, smoke and water damaged 18 units, authorities said, leaving 44 people homeless.
The Red Cross was called in to help the displaced.
The apartment complex’s management also helped the residents by providing apartments for them at another nearby location. King County Metro provided a bus to keep the residents warm and to transport them to the other apartment complex.
The fire was reported around 1:20 a.m. The first units on location found fire and smoke coming from the backside of the second and third stories of the three-story building. Because the fire took place during a time that most people would be home and asleep, firefighters attacked the fire aggressively to protect anyone who might have been trapped inside. Fortunately, everyone had been able to self-evacuate and searches of the apartments found no occupants.
In addition to the Kent Regional Fire Authority, firefighters from South King Fire and Rescue, Burien, Tukwila, and the Port of Seattle responded to the incident. The Zone 3 Fire Explorer provided staffing for the rehab area.
The fire is under investigation.
