Firefighters extinguish Kent house fire on West Hill

Took about 40 minutes to put out fire May 11 in the 25000 block of 35th Avenue South

Fire burned the interior and exterior of a Kent house Thursday night, May 11 in the 25000 block of 35th Avenue South on the West Hill.

Firefighters were dispatched at about 9:47 p.m. and found a two-story house with fire on the exterior and interior of the house, according to an email from Puget Sound Fire spokesperson Pat Pawlak.

Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines to begin putting out the fire. It took approximately 40 minutes to extinguish the fire, Pawlak said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Pawlak said. There were no injuries to residents for firefighters. The American Red Cross assisted the residents with emergency needs.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes, part of a response strategy to any fire.

“When firefighters arrive at fires, the officer will conduct a 360-degree walk-around of the structure to determine if there is a rescue that is needed, where the fire is, identify any hazards such as a basement or electrical wires that are down,” Pawlak said. “This 360-degree walk-around also helps the officer determine where the hose lines need to be deployed to and begin fire extinguishment. By doing this, we can confine the fire to the initial home and protect nearby homes.”
