Fire crews from Kent, Maple Valley and the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to a two alarm apartment fire on the East Hill of Kent Tuesday evening.
Just before 8:30 p.m. neighbors reported smoke and flames coming from the second floor of the town home on the 100th block of SE 258 Place.
On arrival fire crews reported a fully involved second story and immediately requested a second alarm be dispatched.
Crews were able to quickly contain the fire within the unit and thus damage to adjacent units was kept to a minimum. The apartment where the fire started suffered significant smoke, flame and water damage to the second floor and significant smoke and water damage to the first floor.
Fortunately the residents were able to escape quickly and were not injured. No firefighters suffered any injuries.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time and is under investigation. The dollar loss has not been established.
The Kent Fire Department reminds everyone that it is vital you practice fire safety as an individual and as a community. Make sure alarm systems, smoke detectors, carbon dioxide detectors, emergency lighting and portable fire extinguishers work. Keep halls, stairs and exits clear.
