Kent firefighters contained a fire to a food freezer on Friday inside the Safeway store at 13200 Kent Kangley Road.
When firefighters arrived at 11:17 a.m., they found smoke and sparks coming from a 10 feet by 10 feet freezer inside the large retail space, according to the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority.
Customers and employees evacuated the store as a precaution. There were no reported injuries. Store employees helped customers by serving bottled water to those waiting to return to the store due to the 80-plus degree temperature.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
