A fight led to the fatal stabbing of a 30-year-old Kent man Monday night on the East Hill. Kent Police have a suspect in custody.
Officers were dispatched at about 9:05 p.m. to a report of a fight in the area of 10225 SE 240th St., according to a Kent Police Facebook post Monday night. That area has been a high-crime neighborhood for years.
Officers arrived and found an unresponsive man with numerous wounds laying on the ground, according to police. CPR was started and Puget Sound Fire and medics were called to the scene. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.
Based on witness statements, two people known to the victim started fighting. The victim and the suspect knew each other, but police are still trying to determine the reason for the fight.
Kent Police said Tuesday evening in a Facebook post that officers arrested a suspect Monday night a few blocks from the crime scene. Police also said initial reports about a second suspect were inaccurate.
The suspect is a 39-year-old Kent man, Assistant Chief Jarod Kasner said in a Wednesday email. He said the investigation continues into what started the fight.
Detectives talked with witnesses and canvassed the neighborhood looking for any additional witnesses and/or surveillance video.
