A fire destroyed several buildings at a grain storage facility early Wednesday morning in the 27600 block of 78th Avenue South, the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority reported.
The fire, which could be seen for miles, was first reported at 5:15 a.m., according to a Puget Sound Fire media release. When firefighters arrived from Puget Sound Fire, Valley RFA and South King Fire & Rescue, three separate buildings at the site of the White River Feed Company were burning, forcing them to fight the blaze from the outside in a “defensive” mode.
A property caregiver confirmed that all employees were out of the building and accounted for, Puget Sound Fire said. There were no reported injuries.
A King County investigator is working to determine the fire’s cause.
Smoke and fire forced the closure of the BNSF rail lines for a short period of time, which slowed several morning commute Sounder trains. South 277th Street was also partially closed due to fire apparatus and fire hoses.
