A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a 63-year-old Federal Way woman Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 27 in downtown Kent.
Initial reports from witnesses indicated that the woman was standing near the bus stop on the north side of West James Street, west of Fourth Avenue North, according to a Kent Police statement. The suspect vehicle was initially observed traveling west on James Street. The car reportedly left the roadway and drove onto the sidewalk, where it hit a light pole and then struck the woman.
Officers responded at about 4:40 p.m. to reports of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision, according to police. Officers found the woman unconscious and lying in the roadway. Officers began life-saving efforts which medics took over, but the woman died at the scene.
The suspect vehicle is a dark-colored sedan. The driver fled after the collision. Traffic investigators are analyzing the evidence and witness accounts to try to identify the vehicle and suspect.
