FAA signs lease for new offices in Des Moines

A decision initially announced in April about new Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) offices coming to Des Moines became official on Monday.

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) said it has signed a lease with Des Moines Creek Business Park Phase II c/o Panattoni Development Company, Inc. on behalf of the FAA.

The lease will allow FAA’s Northwest Mountain Region to consolidate their operations in one facility to better deliver their mission to provide the safest, most efficient aerospace system in the world, according to a GSA media release. The consolidation is part of the federal government’s initiative to reduce real estate costs and increase their workplace by strategically integrating space, people, and technology solutions customized to different workplace needs.

This lease award is the result of an open and competitive procurement, said Sally Mayberry, GSA regional public affairs officer. Des Moines Creek Business Park Phase II met all the requirements of the request for lease proposals and providing the best overall value to the taxpayers.

The Des Moines site is at South 216th Street and 24th Avenue South.

The FAA occupies about 360,000-square-feet in several different leased locations in Renton but wanted one site for all of its employees. Renton city officials put in a bid to keep the FAA in town. The new offices are scheduled to open in August 2017.

The city of Kent also put in a bid to get the FAA offices built on the Riverbend Golf Complex par 3 property that the city is trying to sell. Kent is still trying to find a buyer for the property.
