Ex-Kentridge High teacher receives 16 months in jail for sex crimes

A King County Superior Court judge sentenced a former Kentridge High School teacher on Friday to 16 months in jail and 24 months of community supervision for sex crimes with a minor.

A King County Superior Court judge sentenced a former Kentridge High School teacher on Friday to 16 months in jail and 24 months of community supervision for sex crimes with a minor.

Brent Patrick Conley, 28, of Seattle, entered guilty pleas last month to two counts of communication with a minor for immoral purposes and second-degree promoting prostitution. He pleaded guilty to one felony count and one gross misdemeanor count of communication with a minor for immoral purposes.

Judge Jean Rietschel issued the sentence at the county courthouse in Seattle, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Conley, who will serve the jail time through work release, also must register as a sex offender.

Prosecutors recommended a sentence of 16 months in jail to be served through work release and 36 months of community supervision. The former teacher had been scheduled to go to trial in August before he entered a guilty plea.

Seattle Police arrested Conley in September 2013 outside of a downtown McDonald’s as part of an undercover sting where a detective posed online as a 15-year-old girl seeking sex with older men in exchange for money.

Conley was a first year English and social studies teacher at Kentridge last fall until his arrest. He is no longer employed by the Kent School District.

Conley responded to an ad in a casual encounters section of a popular website featuring a title of, “Student looking for older men,” according to charging papers. Conley responded through email and started up a correspondence where he was told the girl was a high school cheerleader looking to make some money by having sex.

The conversations via email and text messages continued for two days and Conley agreed to pay $100 for sex. He agreed to meet the girl at the McDonald’s in downtown Seattle on Fourth Avenue. Officers observed Conley at about 7:06 p.m. on Sept. 18, 2013, arriving and parking at the agreed upon meeting location before making their arrest.
