Man burned in fire
A man in his mid-20s received burns to his left leg and hand at a house fire at 11:22 a.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of First Avenue South in downtown Kent.
King County Medic One paramedics transported the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. A condition report on the man was unavailable due to the federal health information privacy rule.
Two adults and three children lived at the home. There were no other injuries to the residents, who are staying with friends and have received help from the American Red Cross with clothing, said Ernie Rideout, deputy fire marshal of the Kent Fire Department.
Firefighters from Kent and the Valley Regional Fire Authority of Auburn responded to the fire. The first firefighters at the house reported a kitchen fire in the back of the home, according to a Kent Fire Department media release.
Firefighters entered through the front door of the house and brought the fire under control in about 10 minutes.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation on Wednesday, Rider said.
The house sustained extensive smoke and heat damage. Rider estimated the damage at about $75,000.
The family rented the home and did not have renters insurance, Rider said. The smoke detectors in the house were working at the time of the fire.
Blaze displaces three
A kitchen fire in a downtown Kent apartment at 1 p.m. Wednesday displaced two men and a boy.
Nobody was home when the fire broke out at an apartment in the 700 block of First Avenue South. Neighbors used a fire extinguisher to help confine the blaze to the kitchen, according to a Kent Fire Department media release.
A cooking pan left on the stove caused the accidental fire, according to fire investigators.
Firefighters from Kent, the Valley Regional Fire Authority of Auburn and South King County Fire and Rescue of Des Moines/Federal Way responded to the incident.
The residents of the apartment are working with the apartment manager to move into a vacant unit.
