An elderly man died in a mobile home fire early Tuesday, Feb. 2 in the 28400 block of 168th Avenue Southeast in Kent, an unincorporated part of King County.
Firefighters were dispatched at about 12:50 a.m. to the Pleasant Valley Mobile Home Park, just south of the Covington city limits and east of the Kent city limits.
“The mobile home was occupied by an elderly couple,” said Puget Sound Fire Capt. Joe Root in an email. “The female was able to get out but unfortunately the gentleman did not.”
The age of the man will be released by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office once it has done an autopsy. Red Cross assisted the displaced woman who was transported to a local hospital.
A King County fire investigator determined the cause of the fire to be accidental and caused by an overloaded electrical power strip. Root said it is unknown at this time if there were working smoke alarms.
The first arriving crew saw that the mobile home was fully involved and had spread to a couple of vehicles, Root said. An aggressive exterior attack knocked down the fire. Firefighters then entered the home and found the man.
The response included seven units from Puget Sound Fire with assistance from Mountain View Fire and Rescue, King County Medic One and Zone 3 Rehab.
