A recap of eight of the strangest Kent Police Blotter items from 2012:

1: Mother leaves 3-year-old son in vehicle while inside casino gambling – Police cited a woman for investigation of child neglect after she reportedly left her 3-year-old son alone in a vehicle for more than 20 minutes while she gambled at the Great American Casino, 20500 108th Ave. S.E.

The incident occurred at about 12:02 p.m. Nov. 17 after a casino employee spotted the boy alone in a Toyota 4Runner with a window partway down, according to the police report.

When police arrived, an officer talked to the boy who said he was cold. The boy pointed toward the casino when asked where his mother had gone.

The mother walked out of the casino a few minutes later and initially told officers she was only inside for about five minutes. She said she was out of gas and gas money and decided to spend her last $5 to get more money.

Officers looked at casino video surveillance and determined the woman played Spanish 21, a variation of blackjack, at a table. She had entered the casino at about 11:40 a.m., cashed $25 worth of chips and left shortly after noon.

2. Driver eludes police during high-speed pursuit; moments later caught at drive-thru restaurant – A man driving an aqua green Honda Civic CRX through Kent streets at speeds of more than 80 mph during a police pursuit thought he had lost the patrol car when he pulled into a Wendy’s drive-thru restaurant in Renton.

Within moments, Renton Police surrounded the car at the drive-thru lane in the 17800 block of 108th Avenue Southeast at about 2:30 a.m. April 14. Kent Police arrested the man for investigation of eluding an officer.

The driver escaped the Kent officer after about a 3-mile chase that took only a couple of minutes. But Renton Police had listened to the pursuit on the Kent Police radio station and figured the man might head up the South 180th Street hill after he left northbound Highway 167. A short time later, they saw the aqua green Honda at the Wendy’s.

3. Female inmate at city jail cited for indecent exposure – Officers cited a female inmate at the city jail for investigation of indecent exposure after she allegedly lifted her shirt and flashed her breasts at a male inmate.

Jail officials called the police after a male inmate notified them that he wanted to file charges against the woman.

The incident occurred June 18 at the city jail, 1230 S. Central Ave.

The man told police he stood inside his cell looking out his glass door toward the recreational yard when he saw the woman lift her shirt and expose her breasts to him.

He told officers that the act alarmed and offended him because, “he did not like it.”

When police talked to the woman, she admitted to the incident. She said she was trying to get accepted by the other “girls” in the jail. She said she refused to lift her shirt at first but did it because the other “girls” thought it would be funny.

4. Officers cite woman who reportedly hid marijuana in her bra – Police cited a woman for investigation of possession of marijuana after witnesses saw the woman reportedly hide drugs inside her bra while at an East Hill bar.

Extra officers were on patrol as a safety presence outside of Jimmy T’s Bar and Grill, 23803 104th Ave. S.E., at about 12:45 a.m. Oct. 14 because of high occupancy inside the bar and a history of fights and disturbances at the site.

Police advised security to ask the customers to leave and re-contact the officers if any problems developed.

A short while later, many people left the bar. Witnesses pointed out one woman who they said stuck drugs inside her bra.

When officers contacted the woman, she allegedly kept walking around and moving around and would not stand still. Officers then placed her in handcuffs.

When officers asked about the woman about her drug use, she pulled out two plastic baggies from inside her bra that had green, leafy material inside. Officers later determined the material tested positive for 7.3 grams of marijuana.

5. Man reportedly grabs teen’s butt in parking lot as she helps mother load groceries – Police arrested a 34-year-old Kent man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly grabbed the butt of an 18-year-old woman as she helped her mother load groceries in a Safeway parking lot.

Officers responded to a call from the mother that a man had grabbed her daughter’s butt and then left in a silver pickup. The incident occurred at about 10:44 p.m. June 4 at Safeway, 13101 Kent Kangley Road.

The mother and daughter got the license plate number of the truck. Officers tracked down the truck and driver near the store. The man at first denied the allegations.

But after officers told him a video camera recorded the incident and that the mother and daughter had identified him as the man, he admitted to grabbing the “tall, cute girl’s” butt with his left hand as just a spur of the moment action.

The daughter told police she and her mother were loading groceries when a man walked past them to enter his truck parked next to them. As he passed the teen, she said she felt his hand on her left butt cheek. She said he squeezed her in the same manner her boyfriend would.

6. Six officers respond to claim about man with gun, knife; report turns out false – Six officers responded to a 911 call from a woman who claimed her brother had a gun and held a knife to her throat.

But officers later arrested the woman for investigation of making false statements to a public servant after she admitted to making up the story trying to teach her brother a lesson after they fought while watching television.

The incident happened April 10 at a home in the 12500 block of Southeast 230th Street.

Police initially detained the brother before determining they could not figure out an aggressor between him and his sister. Another sister also told officers that it was lie that her brother had a gun or held a knife to her sister’s throat.

7. Officers arrest women for theft of high heels, earrings, lollipop – Police arrested two women for investigation of third-degree theft after they allegedly put on new high heels, earrings and belts at Kmart and then left the store without paying for the items.

They even reportedly stole a lollipop that they gave to the 18-month-old child of one of the women.

The women carried $5,135 in cash on them after store security stopped the two at about 8:02 p.m. Feb. 23 outside the store at 24800 W. Valley Highway.

When officers asked the women the reason they took the items despite carrying so much cash, neither one answered. The women paid for several other items at the checkout stand before walking out of the store but made no attempt to pay for the items they had just put on.

Store security observed one of the women reportedly put on new high heels and left her old shoes behind. She also allegedly took earrings out of a box and put them on her ears. Both women were spotted putting new belts around their jeans.

8. Woman jumps on car’s hood chasing mother, son – Police arrested a woman for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief after she reportedly jumped on the hood of a car and cracked the windshield with her fists.

The woman chased the car, driven by her mother with her son inside, at about 1:02 p.m. May 12 in the 10000 block of Southeast 240th Street.

All three were in the 2004 Chevy Malibu on the way to an eye appointment in Kent for the boy when the two women started to argue. The daughter, who was driving, then threw her mother’s purse out of the car window.

The daughter stopped the car at a nearby gas station and the mother got out to look for her purse. When the daughter went inside the station’s store, the mother reportedly took the car with the boy inside and started to drive away.

The daughter ran after the car, jumped on the hood and demanded to be let in as she pounded on the windshield about four times with her fists and broke the glass.
