A driver was killed and a passenger injured in a single-car crash at about 3:20 a.m. Saturday on northbound Interstate 5 in Kent near State Route 516.
No information about the age, sex and hometown of the driver and passenger were released in a Washington State Patrol press memo early Saturday.
The vehicle was traveling northbound in lane one when it began to drift off the roadway, according to the State Patrol. The car impacted dirt on the right side causing the vehicle to rotate clockwise and become airborne. The rotation and impact caused the driver to be ejected and come to rest in lane one. The vehicle, which caught fire, came to rest on the shoulder.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved.
