A car that fell off a semi-truck carrying new vehicles became impaled on a freight-train engine after the train struck the stopped truck Jan. 30 along South 212th Street in Kent.

Kent Police cited the driver of a semi-truck for investigation of failure to stop for railroad signals and stopping on the railroad tracks in connection with a train-truck collision Jan. 30 in Kent.

The truck driver, a 55-year-old Woodland man, was traveling slowly and did not notice the flashing lights at the railroad crossing, said Paul Peterson, Kent Police spokesman. The driver then stopped the truck on the tracks when the crossing arm hit the side of his truck.

He jumped out of the truck to push the crossing arm up. He then hurriedly got back into the truck, but stalled the engine. He then fled the truck and ran to safety before the freight train traveling at 45 mph struck the truck carrying new cars

The accident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. Jan. 30 on a railroad crossing at South 212th Street near 72nd Avenue South.

There were no injuries in the crash.

Two vehicles were knocked off the truck.

The train engine dragged one of the vehicles about one-quarter mile down the track before it stopped. The crash impaled the car on the front of the train’s engine.
