Downtown Kent Library remains closed for repairs

King County Library System expands hours at Kent Panther Lake, Southcenter locations

The King County Library System will expand hours Jan. 10 at its Kent Panther Lake and Southcenter locations due to the continued closure of the Kent Library for repairs to smoke and water damage.

Panther Lake and Southcenter will be open on Mondays and Tuesdays (both are closed on those days normally).

“These expanded hours are temporary,” according to a Jan. 3 library system statement. “They will remain in place until Kent Library repairs are complete.”

A Dec. 3 fire in the book drop at the downtown Kent Library, 212 Second Ave. N., resulted in smoke and water damage in the building. The smoke activated the sprinkler system.

Library officials estimated a closure of four weeks to six weeks. They have not released a reopening date.

The Kent Panther Lake Library is at 20500 108th Ave. SE. The Southcenter location is at 1386 Southcenter Mall in Tukwila.

For operating hours of the libraries, go to the King County Library System website at kcls.org.
