The Ewing Irrigation Company installed two water features in front of Kent Fire Station 74, at 24611 116 Ave. SE., on April 13 and 14.
These pond-less cascading displays were donated to the Kent Fire Department RFA by Ewing and serve two purposes:
1. Building the two water features provides Ewing employees with the opportunity to learn about the process by building the displays.
2. The donation allows Ewing, which has offices in almost every state, to give back to the communities they operate in.
The larger water feature is in the grassy area between the station’s front door and the street. There, the natural slope of the property allows for a waterfall effect. Being pond-less means that there is no standing water to create a potential hazard to children and animals. Instead, all the water is stored underground before being pumped back to the top of the display.
The second water feature is near the front door of the department’s administrative offices. It is in the shape of an urn with water flowing out of it. Like the larger display, all the water collects underground before being pumped back to the surface. This display also will enhance the memorial display of Firefighter Brian Massey whose name is on a plaque in front of the station. Brian died on May 18, 2007 while mountain climbing.
The donation of the two low-maintenance displays is greatly appreciated by the Kent Fire Department RFA and the City of Kent, which owns the building and property.
