A dispute that began with a Kent man not wanting his girlfriend in their apartment bathroom at the same time as him turned into an alleged assault when the man started to punch the woman in a bedroom.
The man also reportedly threw a cologne bottle that hit the woman in the nose during the dispute at about 7:35 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Mosaic Hills Apartments, 23820 109th Ave. SE, according to the police report.
Kent Police arrested the man for investigation of fourth-degree assault and interfering with reporting of domestic violence after he reportedly grabbed his girlfriend’s phone away from her as she tried to call 911.
The girlfriend told officers that her boyfriend was showering and she came into the bathroom. He told her to leave. The argument continued to a bedroom where the man reportedly grabbed the woman around the neck. The woman hit back to defend herself, but the man started to punch her in the face.
The boyfriend told police the woman came after him for an unknown reason. He said the phone belonged to him since he paid for it and gave it to her as a gift.
Three officers entered the apartment after reports from neighbors about a verbal dispute. Officers noted in the report that the woman had blood on her nose and lips. Police also found a pistol on the floor of the apartment but the girlfriend told them the gun wasn’t used during the argument.
Man steals salad, cookies
A man reportedly tried to steal a salad and a plastic container of cookies during an incident at about 10:20 p.m. Jan. 26 at Safeway, 210 Washington Ave. S.
Officers arrested the man for investigation of third-degree theft and a Kent warrant for a failure to appear for a DUI, according to the police report. A store employee reported to police that a man and a woman were trying to shoplift items from the store.
The woman fled before officers arrived. They found the man sitting on a curb near the store. A store video showed the man and a woman trying to break into a locked alcohol cabinet.
Officers noted the man appeared to be intoxicated. Safeway employees asked that the man be banned for life from the store, which means if he returns he could be arrested for trespassing.
Man caught on warrant
Police arrested a man for a state Department of Corrections (DOC) escape warrant after officers saw him near the front entrance of the former Top Foods store at about 11:13 a.m. Jan. 27 in the 26000 block of 104th Avenue Southeast.
An officer on patrol noted he cruises past the closed store because on numerous occasions he has found people wanted for warrants, stolen cars and made narcotics arrests, according to the police report. Property managers also have complained about transients in the parking lot and requested extra patrols. No trespassing signs are posted on the property.
The officer saw two men near the front entrance. The men told police they were homeless and just wanted to get out of the rain. They agreed to give their names to the officers which led to the discovery of the state DOC felony warrant.
Woman gives false name
An officer pulled over a woman driving a SUV northbound in the 23400 block of 30th Avenue South on Jan. 27 because she couldn’t keep the vehicle in her lane.
The officer arrested the woman for investigation of making a false statement and a state DOC escape from community custody warrant, according to the police report.
The woman reportedly gave police a false name. She had no photo identification, no proof of registration and no proof of insurance. She claimed it was a SUV rental car she borrowed from a friend.
Police requested a portable fingerprint unit come to the scene because of confusion about the woman’s name. That helped identify the woman on the state DOC warrant. Officers also arrested a woman passenger in the vehicle for a SeaTac prostitution warrant.
