Des Moines Police arrested a 22-year-old Renton man for investigation of fatally shooting a Tacoma man Oct. 28 at the Redondo Square shopping complex at South 272nd Street and Pacific Highway South, near the city of Kent border.
Police found a 31-year-old man fatally shot in the parking lot of the strip mall at about 9:14 p.m. Oct. 28, according to a Des Moines Police media release. The name of the victim has not been released by the police or the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
During the course of the investigation, surveillance video was obtained by detectives from a variety of businesses located within the Redondo Square. This surveillance video captured a portion of the incident as it unfolded, including video of the suspect vehicle entering and leaving the scene.
Police released video and photos of the suspect vehicle to the media on Oct. 30. Detectives arrested the man in Renton based on tips about the vehicle. He was taken into custody on Tuesday without incident and booked into the King County jail.
“It was due to the tireless efforts of our detectives following up on a tip provided by a member of the community which allowed for the successful resolution of this case,” said Des Moines Police Chief Ken Thomas, formerly the Kent Police chief, in a media release.
Des Moines Police referred the case to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Police have not said whether it is a gang-related shooting.
