Ongoing containment and treatment of contaminated groundwater at the BSB Diversified site in Kent at at 8202 S 200th St., continues to protect public health and the environment, according to a periodic review by the Department of Ecology.
BSB conducts the work under a corrective action permit, which has come up for renewal. Ecology proposes to reissue the permit.
Ecology seeks public comment on the periodic review and the draft permit with its application through Oct. 15.
Ecology reviews sites that have undergone cleanup if the cleanup included a special condition that must be maintained on the property. The reviews occur every five years.
Groundwater at the site is contaminated with trichloroethene (TCE), a solvent, and other compounds from the breadkdown of TCE, including vinyl chloride. An underground wall of non-permeable clay surrounds the area, which is capped by asphalt paving. Groundwater is pumped into a pre-treatment system, then discharged to the sanitary sewer.
