The Kent City Council has scheduled two special workshops to discuss the 2010 city budget.
The first is at 5 p.m. Dec. 2 in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The second starts at 9 a.m. Dec. 5 at Fire Station No. 78, 17852 S.E. 256th St., in Covington.
The sessions are open to the public, but the Council does not allow public comment at the workshops. Residents will get a chance to comment about the budget before final adoption, scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at City Hall.
Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke last month proposed to Council a $157.8 million operating budget, including a general fund budget of $80.3 million and $11.4 million for capital projects. The general fund budget includes a projected $4.6 million revenue shortfall next year and the elimination of 24 jobs. Another 32 jobs are going to be left vacant.
