Four young women are vying for the Miss Cornucopia title this year. You can see the pageant for yourself 2 p.m. Friday at the festival’s Main Stage at Second and Smith street, when the Cornucopia Queen is announced. With her court of queen candidates, she will then preside over the rest of Kent’s Cornucopia Days, as well as other community events over the next year.
This year’s candidates are:
• Erica Rodarte, 21, daughter of Maria and Jesse Rodarte and a Kentridge graduate. She plans to attend Eastern Washington University and study nursing.
• Renelyn Cruz, 18, granddaughter of Maria and Domingo DeGuzman, and a Kentridge graduate. She is attending Green River Community College and is undecided on a major.
• Laura Vermilion, 18, daughter of Dana and Mark Vermilion and a Kentridge graduate. She plans to attend Whitman College, and to work someday as an environmental lawyer or a United Nations civil-rights officer.
• Emily Anguiano, 18, a graduate of Kentridge. She plans to attend Western Washington University, where she will study kinesiology to become a physical therapist.
Cornucopia Days runs July 8-11 throughout Kent.
