Kentwood students Darrius Coleman and Jessie Genger are the Rotary Students of the Week, for their achievements in athletics.
Darrius, a senior at Kentwood, is the son of Donna Coleman.
At Kentwood he plays football (three years as a runningback), basketball (functioning as a shooting guard) and track, where he does the hurdles.
He also has been involved with the Kent Knights for four years, and currently volunteers for them.
Darrius plans to attend college to become an architect, but hasn’t yet decided upon a school.
Jessie, also a senior, is the daughter of Barb and Thes Genger.
She is active in volleyball and basketball. Her achievements in volleyball include being the 2008 Kent Reporter Athlete of the Year, being the 2007 SPSL Most Valuable Player, making it to both All-Area teams for the Seattle Times and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and being a 2007 All State First Team hitter.
She made the 2007-08 First Team in basketball, and has played on multiple championship teams in both sports.
Outside of school she has participated in kids’ camps for volleyball and basketball. She plans to play volleyball at a four-year college and to major in business.
