Two young children playing with a lighter in a garage caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to a single-family home Wednesday evening in the 26100 block of 121st Avenue Southeast on the East Hill of Kent.
The fire was reported shortly after 8 p.m. Kent firefighters quickly contained the fire and limited the majority of the damage to the garage, according to a Kent Fire Department media release.
Fire officials said the remainder of the home had extensive smoke damage but no flame damage.
There were no injuries.
Red Cross is working to assist the family with shelter, clothing and food.
Fire officials said the fire is a reminder that is important to teach children about fire safety and the potential dangers of fire.
