Dave Stump and his teammates like the outdoors and prefer the half-court.
The Wheelchair Sonics welcomed the sunshine, the crowd and the asphalt surface that was part the fifth annual ShoWare Shootout 3 on 3 basketball tournament last weekend.
“They do a good job of putting this on,” Stump said, waiting to join his teammates to play the Hot Wheels in the wheelchair division. “With a half-court, you can get more pick-and-rolls. You see, you have to be able to get around this big wheelchair.”
The shootout, presented by Republic Services, feature up 122 teams on 14 outdoor courts spread over the ShoWare Center’s west parking lot. Teams competed for top honors in a variety of divisions for men, women, children and wheelchair players. A ball hockey division returned for the second straight year.
