Five candidates filed for the Kent City Council position held by incumbent Les Thomas who is not running for reelection.
Incumbent council members Marli Larimer and Zandria Michaud each will face one challenger. Incumbent Bill Boyce is running unopposed.
King County Elections filing week for the 2023 elections was May 15-19.
Cody T. Clark, Michael Ferguson, Kelly Wiggans-Crawford, John Boyd and Jamie Lee are running for Position No. 3 held by the longtime incumbent Thomas, according to King County Elections.
Jessie Ramsey is challenging Larimer for Position No. 1. Darryl Jones is taking on Michaud for Position No. 7.
School board races
Three candidates filed to challenge incumbent Leslie Hamada for Position No. 3 on the Kent School Board. They are Lizz Morgan, Stephanie Lawson and Donald Cook.
Joe Bento didn’t file to retain Position No. 1. Andy Song is the only candidate for that seat. Bento, a Renton High School teacher, said at the April 26 board meeting that he might not run because he had applied to get into a career and technical education program in order to become a director.
Andy Carter will take on Meghin Margel for Position No. 2. The board appointed Margel to the seat in September 2022 after Michele Bettinger resigned. Carter was a finalist for the appointment.
Election dates
The primary is Aug. 1 for races with more than two candidates. The two candidates with the most votes in each primary race advance to the Nov. 7 general election.
