Ceremony planned for Kent Events Center
Want to put your name on a piece of local history? The City of Kent has scheduled what it’s calling a “Topping Out” ceremony for the upcoming Kent Events Center, and the public is invited.
The event runs 2:15-3 p.m. April 15, at the center project site on West James Street and Fifth Avenue North.
Participants at the ceremony can sign their name on the last steel beam of the center, and watch as the beam is put into place by crane. Limited-edition commemorative “beam-signing” pens will be given to the first 200 guests. Parking is available at the Metro Park & Ride at 902 W. James St.

The 6,025-seat arena center is slated for completion by January 2009. It will function as the new home for the Seattle Thunderbirds hockey team, in addition to being the site of future concerts, ice shows, conventions and local high-school graduations.
