Memorial services scheduled in Kent
Tahoma National Cemetery will have a Memorial Day Program starting noon May 26 at the cemetery, located at 18600 S.E. 240th St., Kent.
This year’s program will include a flyover provided by the U.S. Navy.
Keynote speakers are Lindee Lenox, director of Memorial Programs Services, Washington, D.C., and Capt. Thomas Mascolo, commander of the U.S. Naval Station in Everett.

Pilot in crash identified
A pilot flying a Cessna near Covington who was killed in a crash on May 9 was officially identified Tuesday by the King County medical examiner as Roger N. Thompson, a Kent resident. He was 69 years old.
The single-engine airplane crashed into the house of Rosemary Devoni, destroying a portion of the garage before plunging into the home’s yard and bursting into flames shortly after taking off from nearby Crest Airpark. Firefighters from King County Fire District 44/Mountain View Fire and Rescue extinguished the flames and kept them from spreading to the residence.
Devoni was in the house but wasn’t injured.
Thompson’s cause of death was listed by the medical examiner “as skull, sternal, rib, pelvic and long bone fractures,” plus internal injuries and blunt force to his head, torso and extremities, all suffered in the crash.
The house struck by the plane is a few blocks south of the intersection of Covington-Lake Sawyer Road and 180th Avenue Southeast, about two miles southeast of downtown Covington.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the accident.
CPR, first aid classes on June 14
Kent Fire Department officials will offer adult CPR and first aid classes starting at 9 a.m. June 14 at Station No. 77, 20717 132nd Ave. S.E.
An adult CPR class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $25. A combined adult CPR and first aid class will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $45. Deadline for registration is June 11.
