Kent Police Capt. Ron Price was announced Friday as the new chief of police in Bozeman, Mont.

Kent Police Chief Steve Strachan announced the hiring of Price by the city of Bozeman in a media release Friday.

“While it is difficult to lose Capt. Price, I know that the Bozeman P.D. has hired one of the best,” Strachan said “It is a credit to our department and to our community that others are seeking out our officers to lead their departments.”

Price, 55, has worked for the Kent Police since 1977. He handled a variety of duties in Kent over the years including K-9 handler, all levels of supervision, and most recently as captain of the Patrol Division. Price previously served as Commander of the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

The other finalists to be police chief in Bozeman included Minneapolis Deputy Police Chief Scott Gerlicher and former Grand Junction (Colo.) Police Chief Bill Gardner, according to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle Web site.

Price will start his new job in July. He will replace Mark Tymrak, who retired in October after leading the department for 13 years.

Price will move to Bozeman along with his wife, Lisa Price, who will retire as a lieutenant after 23 years with the Kent Police. Price most recently has served as spokeswoman for the Kent Police.
