Boyd defeating Wiggans-Crawford for open Kent City Council seat

Incumbents Larimer and Michaud headed to lopsided victories

John Boyd is easily defeating Kelly Wiggans-Crawford for the open position on the Kent City Council while incumbents Marli Larimer and Zandria Michaud are cruising to victories.

Boyd has received 57.21% (5,278 votes) while Wiggans-Crawford has 42.15% (3,888 votes), according to King County Election results released Tuesday night, Nov. 7. The winner will replace Les Thomas, who decided not to seek reelection after 20 years on the council.

Larimer has 78.36% (7,117 votes) while challenger Jessie Ramsey has 21.14% (1,920 votes). Michaud has 67.85% (6,162 votes) while challenger Darryl Jones has 31.69% (2.878 votes).

Council President Bill Boyce ran unopposed.

Boyd is a retired lead quality inspector from Boeing and Wiggans-Crawford is a certified paralegal. Boyd has raised $10,854 and spent $20,140, according to the state Public Disclosure Commission website on Nov. 7. He also has loaned himself $5,078. Wiggans-Crawford has raised $7,560 and spent $1,469. Boyd spent most of his money on campaign mailers and political consulting services.

Michaud has raised $6,256 and spent $3,857. Ramsey didn’t raise or spend enough to file a contribution and expenditure report. Larimer has raised $1,400 and spent zero. Jones didn’t raise or spend enough to file a report.

Boyd’s campaign website listed endorsements from Democratic Congressman Adam Smith; SeaTac Mayor Jake Simpson; state Sen. Claudia Kauffman, D-Kent; state Sen. Karen Keiser, D-Des Moines; state Rep. Tina Orwall, D-Des Moines; state Rep. Debra Entenman, D-Kent; state Rep. Mia Gregerson, D-SeaTac; state Rep. Chris Stearns, D-Auburn; and former State Rep. Pat Sullivan, D-Covington.

Wiggans-Crawford was endorsed by the Kent Police Officers Association (union) and The Kent Firefighters IAFF Local 1747.
