A boy is in a local hospital after he was pulled unconscious out of an apartment complex swimming pool Wednesday afternoon in the 2700 block of South 259th Street in Kent.
After the child was removed from the pool, people who were poolside started CPR on the boy, according to a Kent Fire Department media release.
A Kent Police officer continued CPR after his arrival until firefighters from Kent and South King Fire and Rescue as well as King County paramedics arrived.
A heartbeat was reestablished in the child before he was transported to the hospital by medics. No further information is available on the patient due to privacy laws.
It is unknown how long the boy was in the water before someone rescued him. An adult family member was at the pool at the time.
The Kent Police and Fire Departments remind residents to observe the following water safety tips:
Always supervise children when near any body of water, including swimming pools.
Wear a Coast Guard approved personal floatation device when in water more than chest deep or if there is a current present.
Remember that life jackets are now mandatory on King County rivers in unincorporated areas.
Do not overestimate your ability to swim. Cold water, fatigue, and panic can all play a part in a drowning.
Alcohol and water do not mix. Avoid drinking alcohol when near bodies of water.
