Boeing officials partially evacuated their Kent plant at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday because of a small explosion and fire in one of the company’s labs.
The explosion and fire were caused by a battery test, according to a Kent Fire Department media release.
No one was injured.
The plant is at the corner of the West Valley Highway and South 212th Street in the Kent Valley.
The accident caused smoke and fumes to travel through portions of the affected building. Employees were evacuated as a precaution.
A quick response by Boeing employees and emergency responders from Kent, Renton, and Tukwila kept the incident to the lab where the testing took place.
Once fire officials helped stabilize the problem, Boeing employees cleaned up the battery test.
