For the Reporter

Two men are safe after their Fiberglass fishing boat sank 150 feet off the shore on Lake Meridian this morning.

The Kent Fire Department RFA was dispatched to the incident at 8:50 a.m., after receiving reports that two men were in the cold waters. When firefighters arrived the men were on a private dock close to where their approximately 17-foot boat floated upside-down.

According to the men, the boat was operating normally when it suddenly began to take on water. As the boat sank, it flipped over, trapping the men for several seconds. Both were able to get to the surface without injury. One of the two men was also able to put a life jacket on as the boat sank.

Once firefighters and a police marine unit confirmed that both men were safe, they towed the capsized boat to the public boat launch at the east end of the lake where the owner was planning on having the boat flipped back over and removed from the water.

There did not appear to be any oil or fuel leaking from the boat, Kent Fire officials said.
