Assault

A Kent man reportedly tried to choke his girlfriend, threw a disposable lighter at her and hit her with a door during a dispute shortly after noon on March 6 at a home in the 21200 block of 94th Place South.

Kent Police arrested the man for investigation of fourth-degree assault, according to the police report.

The girlfriend called 911 after the incident. She told officers her boyfriend became upset when she told him she did not want to go to work that day. The man, who is unemployed, started to call the woman names.

Later, the couple argued about breaking up and the boyfriend asked the woman to move out. As the woman stood near the front door, he reportedly pushed her and banged the door into her.

Theft

Police arrested a 19-year-old man for investigation of third-degree theft, after he reportedly tried to take three cans of an alcohol-energy drink without paying March 6 from a store in the 25200 block of Pacific Highway South.

A story security officer saw the man pay for bread and cheese, but not the malted beverages.

Police drove up to the store and spotted the three men outside the store. Two were holding cans and one had just thrown a can away. Police cited all three for investigation of being minors in possession of alcohol.

The 16-ounce can of energy drink contained 6.6 percent alcohol, according to the report.

Robbery

A man told police that three men took $40 from him as he sat inside their car at about 5 p.m. March 6 near the Metro Transit Station in the 300 block of Railroad Avenue North.

The man told reporting officers that one of the three men in the rear passenger seat of the car displayed a black handgun and took the cash from him. The men then told him to get out of the car.

The three men had apparently given the man a ride from the Auburn transit station to Kent. They had asked him to help them cash a check at a bank, but the bank declined to cash the check.

When officers asked the man if the incident had been some type of drug deal gone bad, the man told police he didn’t want to talk anymore about what happened. Witnesses told police that they saw the man get out of the car and that he yelled something about losing his $40.

Assault

A husband told police that his wife had slapped him twice in the face during a dispute at about 8 p.m. March 9 at a home in the 24800 block of 23rd Avenue South.

Police arrested her for investigation of fourth-degree assault.

The man told officers that he and his wife had been arguing about her refusal to take medication for her bipolar disorder. The woman reportedly knocked the pills out of her husband’s hand and then slapped him in the face.

The husband told officers he called 911 because he hoped the presence of police would help persuade his wife to take her medication. The woman declined to talk to officers about the incident.
