Police arrested a 30-year-old woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault after she reportedly threw a pop can that hit her boyfriend in the back, then punched him several times in the face.

The incident occurred at about 2:42 a.m. Nov. 6 as the woman and her boyfriend, also 30, walked along the street in the 22000 block of 84th Avenue South, according to the police report.

Officers had responded to witnesses at the scene.

The boyfriend, who officers noted had a bloody lip and blood on his shirt, told officers that his girlfriend did not hit him, but that he had punched himself in the face.

The girlfriend also denied that she punched her boyfriend. She said they had argued at home and she left to take her dog on a walk on a leash. The boyfriend followed her, she said, and grabbed the dog from her.

Two witnesses told officers that they saw the woman throw a pop can at the man and then punch him several times in the face.

The report did not indicate what the girlfriend and boyfriend had been arguing about.

Police spotted the two men at about 8:28 p.m. Nov. 8 seated in a van at a bar parking lot in the 500 block of Washington Avenue North.

An officer approached the van because it sat near the back of a rear parking lot even though the lot was nearly empty.

Police cited the men for investigation of possession of marijuana and released them.

Officers arrested the man for investigation of third-degree theft.

The man told officers he “robbed them (the store) for cigarettes.”

The store clerk told police the man reached over the counter to pull a bunch of cigarette packs off the shelves before taking the pack he wanted as well as a lighter. The cigarettes were valued at $7.35 and the lighter at $1.30.
