The Kamloops Blazers defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-1 Friday night at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops, British Columbia.
The T-Birds take on the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05 tonight at the ShoWare Center.
Goalie Danny Mumaugh made his first career start for the T-Birds. He stopped 30 of 36 shots and got the loss, dropping his record to 0-2-0-0.
Seattle (16-19-2-1) jumped in front 1-0 at 14:38 of the first period with a power-play goal. Brendan Rouse crossed the puck from the right point to Branden Troock at the left point. Troock put a shot on goal that missed the net. The puck rebounded off the back boards to Justin Hickman at the right post. Hickman jammed the puck past Kamloops goalie Taran Kozun for his 10th goal of the year.
Kamloops (27-10-2-2) tied the game 1-1 at 18:45 of the first when Cole Ully scored. Brendan Ranford and Joel Edmundson had the assists.
The Blazers outshot the T-Birds 12-6 in the first period.
Joe Kornelson scored an unassisted goal at 5:47 of the second period to put the Blazers in front 2-1.
Kamloops went in front 3-1 at 16:20 of the second when Matt Needham scored. Dylan Willick and Edmundson were credited with the assists.
Kale Kessy scored a five-on-three power-play goal at 19:49 of the second to extend their lead to 4-1. Ranford and Tim Bozon had the assists.
Kamloops led 23-14 in shots after outshooting the T-Birds 11-8 in the second period.
The Blazers scored a power-play goal 35 seconds into the third period to take a 5-1 lead. Josh Connolly scored the goal off assists from Ranford and Ully.
Kessy added a second goal on the night at 14:03 of the third to give the Blazers a 6-1 lead. Ully and Ranford had the assists.
The Blazers outshot the T-Birds 13-9 in the third period and 36-23 in the game.
Kozun made 22 saves on 23 shots and his record is now 9-3-1-1.
