For the Reporter
Kent’s Anika Glass and Leslie Ducay – best friends and classmates since middle school – graduate from Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday.
Glass will receive a degree in business administration with a concentration in human resources management and services at winter commencement. Ducay receives a degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and advertising.
They both attended Cedar Heights Middle School and Kentlake High School.
Glass, an avid leader who supports diversity and inclusion efforts on campus and in the community, is a two-time recipient of the Rieke Leadership Award at PLU.
Glass has been a dedicated mentor and program assistant for an organization called Math Engineering Science Achievement. This last summer she was chosen to be a part of the Washington Bus Fellowship, a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization dedicated to engaging young people in the political process. She played an important role as a campaign manager for the Seatac Good Jobs Initiative.
Her recent work has been as the outreach manager for Lute Vote, a newly implemented civic engagement organization through the Associated Students of PLU that worked to register more than 300 students to vote this election year.
Ducay, meanwhile, has been a pro-active student leader who empowers her peers and community by engaging in meaningful work on campus and around Pierce County.
Ducay, a five-time dean’s list recipient, earned the PLU Division of Student Life Leader of Distinction Award, PLU Division of Student Life Ubuntu Award, PLU Women’s Center Scholarship, and the PLU Women’s Center Inspirational Woman Award.
After serving as a student leader in various departments on campus for more than 3 1/2 years, Ducay has been inspired to pursue a master’s degree in student affairs next fall in order to continue serving students on a college campus.
