Beginning in the fall, the Auburn School District will provide all the required school supplies for its students, according to a district press release.
The district will provide everything from pencils and notebooks to earbuds. Grade-specific supplies will be distributed to students during the first week of school and replaced throughout the 2022-2023 year as needed.
Providing school supplies to all students is part of the district’s strategy to increase equity in education, according to the press release. Purchasing school supplies can put extra stress on students’ families, and the district hopes to remove this burden.
“We are excited to make sure students have the necessary supplies to be successful in school,” said Cindi Blansfield, associate superintendent for business and operations. “We believe this is a great step to better support our students and families.”
The district will spend $600,000 on school supplies for students for the 2022-2023 school year, according to the release.
