A 30-year-old man has been arrested and faces a second-degree murder charge in relation to the death of his mother in their home in unincorporated King County near Auburn, according to King County Sheriff’s Office documents.
The Auburn Reporter does not release a suspect’s identity until they have been charged with a crime.
The man was arrested after a several hours long standoff with King County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Tuesday, Sept. 14, according to documents.
Earlier on Tuesday, the mother called 911 at 8:04 a.m. to report a dispute between her and her son, according to documents. The mom told police her son had grabbed a gun and told her to leave the house, but the mom refused and barricaded herself in the garage, according to documents.
After being persuaded by a 911 dispatcher, the mom left the house and met KCSO deputies down the street, according to documents. The mom told the deputies that her son had been in the military and was diagnosed with PTSD and bipolar disorder, according to documents.
The mom told deputies her son had armed himself with a black handgun, according to documents. The mom didn’t indicate that a crime had occurred inside the house, so deputies left, the documents state.
Several hours later, around 1:40 p.m., someone made a 911 call reporting they heard five or six gunshots coming from the direction of their house, according to documents.
When deputies arrived at the house, the man was hanging out of a window and told deputies that police were not welcome inside the house, the documents state. Deputies were not able to contact his mother, according to documents.
Deputies learned that the mom had left the house after their initial contact earlier that day, but that she returned home prior to the 911 call regarding the shots fired, according to documents.
Deputies asked the man where his mother was and he replied, “she is everywhere,” according to documents. The man said that if police wanted to see her, they should check the garage, the documents state.
Due to the seriousness of the situation, King County Sheriff’s TAC 30 SWAT team entered the garage to check for his mom, according to documents.
When TAC 30 members entered the garage, they found a deceased adult female whom they believed to be the mother on the floor of the garage, according to documents.
At 8:21 p.m., the man exited the house and was arrested by TAC 30. He requested an attorney and no statement was given, according to documents.
It was confirmed that his mom was the deceased female in the garage. She had multiple gunshot wounds to her body and chest. Her small dog was next to her, also deceased from gunshot wounds, according to documents.
The man is in custody at the King County Jail. His bail has not been set as he is awaiting his first appearance, according to documents.
