Kent’s Stefano Langone performed for a spot in the top seven Wednesday night on “American Idol.”
Langone, 22, a former Kentwood High School and Bellevue College student, barely survived last week when he ranked in the bottom three of votes by viewers.
It came down to Langone and Pia Toscano, but Tosano was eliminated in a vote that surprised and upset many, including the Idol judges Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez.
Langone delivered a rendition of “End of the Road” by Boyz II Men on the Wednesday night show on Fox. One more contestant from the remaining eight will be eliminated on the Thursday night show.
The show has come under attack by some Idol fans who want Toscano brought back and Langone removed, according to www.TMZ.com.
“Our Idol spies tell us hundreds of fans have been begging FOX to recognize the injustice of kicking Pia off the show, and bend the rules,” according to www.TMZ.com. “It appears these fans are organized, because they come with a singular message — Stefano has no chance of winning and therefore he should be removed now as a sacrificial lamb so Pia can come back. We’re told the fans have even reached out to Stefano … pleading with him to remove himself from the competition.”
Langone has responded to the critics and his fans on his Twitter account SLangoneAI10, which has more than 50,000 followers.
“Again super love for the support,” he tweeted April 9. “Just wanna stress one more time don’t feed into what people are saying. People that have a clue really know it wasn’t my fault. It’s ok guys! We got this member lol now stick wit me and ride it out! Cuz you know I’m coming up from this! I’ve been thru too much to let this kill me. So enough wit the haters. There always gunna be there, no worries! We got this.”
The Kent singer has fallen into the bottom three in two of the last three weeks.
