Family and friends gathered to celebrate Sissi Longthorpe’s 90th birthday last Saturday afternoon at Golden Steer Steak ‘n Rib House.
Longthorpe, who actually turns 90 on Dec. 2, is a 35-year Kent resident. Her active community work includes her longtime support of the Republican party and the boating industry, notably with the Carver Cruisers Yacht Club and Northwestern Boating Council.
She operated an accounting service for 20 years.
Longthorpe, who belongs to one of the oldest families from Germany, served as one of her country’s first radar officers during World War II. She met her first husband, an American soldier, during the war and came stateside. Longthorpe eventually moved to the Northwest.
She and her second husband, Paul, raised four children. They have five grandchildren.
