Nearly 8,000 bicyclists will ride through Kent Saturday morning, July 13, as part of the 40th annual Kaiser Permanente Seattle to Portland ride presented by Alaska Airlines.
Riders start between 4:45 and 7:30 a.m. at the University of Washington in Seattle. They will enter Kent from the north on 80th Avenue South, turn right on South 196th Street and left on 68th Avenue South (aka West Valley Highway) and head south to Auburn.
Bicyclists cover the 206 miles in either one or two days. They cruise through the scenic valleys, forests and farmlands of Western Washington and Oregon. Bicycling Magazine has listed the ride as one of the best cycling events in the nation. The ride ends at Holladay Park in Portland near the Lloyd Center mall.
