Know Before you go: Road closures in mountains and Puget Sound area;

WSDOT prepping in Southwest and Eastern Washington for later today

OLYMPIA – All three major east-west mountain pass highways through the Cascade Mountains are closed at this hour due to avalanche danger and mudslides. Motorists should anticipate additional travel delays and road closures.

Drivers should plan for winter driving conditions in the mountain passes

when they open and the potential for flooding throughout Washington.

Route information is available at the WSDOT web site, www.wsdot.wa.gov

and drivers are encouraged to check conditions along their entire route.

WSDOT has established a county-by-county list of road closures at:

www.wsdot.wa.gov/news/update/.

Weather forecasts indicate a strong potential for flooding throughout

Washington that could close major highways, including I-5 in Lewis

County, later this week.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday,

I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass is closed from milepost 33 near North Bend to

milepost 106 near Ellensburg due to avalanche danger and the need to

clean up an avalanche that occurred. US 2 at Stevens Pass and SR 20 near

Newhalem are both closed due to natural avalanches. US 97 Blewett Pass

is closed from the Big Y junction (mp 150) to the Lauderdale junction

(mp 185) due to heavy snow and mud slides over the roadway.

Crews are clearing mud slides on both sides of US 12 White Pass, one on

US 12 near Mossyrock. East of White Pass, US 12 is closed at milepost

171.5 just west of Rimrock Retreat.

Clallam County

Water over the roadway has closed sections SR 112 in Clallam County in

Clallam Bay near Hoko-Ozette Road and the Green Creek Bridge. SR 112 is

also closed at US 101 near the town of Joyce.

SR 110 near Ballard Road is closed in Forks due to flooding.

King County

SR 410 – Closed in both directions from Greenwater to Enumclaw due to

mudslides and water over the roadway.

Kittitas County:

US 97 is closed at milepost 136 near Ellensburg at the Junction of SR 10

to milepost 149 at the junction of SR 970 due to water, mud, and debris

over the roadway.

SR 10 is closed at milepost 88 to milepost 104 at the Junction of SR 970

to US 97 near Ellensburg due to mudslides and water over the roadway.

Lewis County

Pierce County

An over six-mile stretch of SR 162 is closed from Orville Road to just

outside the town limits of South Prairie (milepost 11 to 17.5).

SR 165 near Church Street in Wilkeson is closed due to flood waters.

Standing water on I-5, SR 16, and SR 512 poses potential danger to

motorists driving too fast for conditions.

Due to weather and road conditions across the region, the I-5/SR 16

Westbound Nalley Valley groundbreaking event scheduled for this morning

has been canceled.

Skagit County

SR 20 – Closed at Minkler Road (milepost 71.6) to Hamilton Road in Lyman

(milepost 79) due to water over the roadway.

SR 20 – Closed at Concrete (at east city limit, milepost 90) to Jackman

Creek Road (milepost 91) due to two mud slides.

SR 20 – Closed at Newhalem (milepost 121) due to avalanches over

roadway.

Thurston County

SR 8 at Kennedy Creek is closed because of water and debris over the

roadway at the US 101 Junction. Motorists can get around the closure by

taking US 101 to SR 108 and then back to SR 8.

Whatcom County

water over roadway.

I-5 – Northbound off-ramp at Iowa Street (exit 254) closed due to water
